What is the NTI/NTU Alumni CF (NTIUACF)?

It is the Christian Fellowship for the Graduates from NTI/NTU. Primarily formed by those who have benefited in one way or another when they were part of the Christian Fellowship in campus. But also includes those graduates who did not know Christ while in Campus but have received Jesus into their lives since graduation.

Why is the NTIUACF formed?

Many of the CF alumni have continued to meet after graduation for fun, food and fellowship. In 2003, six batches of the Alumni (1985 to 1990) met at the NUS Guild House. The question was asked if the Alumni could do more than just gather to catch up. FT took up the challenge to float the idea with whoever from the CF Alumni he met. Over the one and a half years, there was enough consensus that something can and should be done to get the CF Alumni together.

When was the NTIUACF formed?

In 2005, Anton (First Staff Advisor), Pow Look (President of NTICF ProTem Committee) and F T Liu (First President of NTICF) got together to initiate the formation of the NTIUACF. The strategy was to start with a small group and by God’s grace, we managed to get the list of Past Presidents of the CF from NTU Student Affairs. We started by contacting all the Past Presidents of the CF from 1985 to 2005. The purpose was to get the consensus from the Past Presidents on whether the CF Alumni should be formed and if yes, what should the focus be. A face-to-face session was held on May 2, 2005 where 9 turned up to share our thoughts (see http://pastpresidents.blogspot.com/). It was agreed that we were to individually pray and confirm that God is in this effort to pull the Alumni together and to revert with a compelling focus for the Alumni. The follow-up session was a conference call conducted on May 29, 2005. At this second session, it was decided that we are ready to communicate with the CF Alumni at large on why we are gathering the CF Alumni, what we want to do and how we plan to go about doing what we say we want to do.

How is the NTIUACF different?

When we were involved in the CF back in campus, we were working with an incredible group of talented and passionate people. We really focused on taking care of each other and we have learnt how to work together and make things happen. That experience has been imprinted on us. As the Alumni CF, we now have a group of Christians who are not only technically skilled but also tactically mature, having acquired tremendous experience in the marketplace, where we have the confidence and experience to focus on building things that are significant and lasting in the Kingdom of God.

What is the focus of the NTIUACF?

THREE areas:
1. EXTERNAL: Reaching out and bearing FRUITS
1.1. China - building mission schools
1.2. China - agriculture as a means of building communities of believers
1.3. China - investing in small businesses so that local Chinese believers have a means of sustaining themselves

2. INTERNAL: We must help the Brethren
2.1. Family - where we can reach out to the brethren better because of our past relationships in the CF
2.2. Career - jobs, career change, advice, mentoring
2.3. Human Capital - leverage on the marketplace skills & the ministry skills we have developed

3. CF: Support the campus ministry
3.1. Advisory role
3.2. Partnership

Why China?

This seems to be the consensus of the Past-Presidents. Many of the Past-Presidents are already actively involved in projects focusing on China. Over the next 10 years, China will overtake Japan and Germany to become the second largest economy after the United States. For many of us, China is also the land of our ancestors.

What are some of the guiding principles of the NTIUACF?

1. We seek to build not to tear each other apart
2. We seek to inspire each other to greater works
3. We seek to focus on the positives and not the dark side
4. We seek to complement what the Church is doing not to replace
5. Eventually there will be a need to have a structure to the CF Alumni. In the meantime, FT Liu will be the contact person for any issues arising from the CF Alumni that needs to be addressed and resolved.
